Why is this topic important? BECAUSE WOMEN IN THE POLICE FORCE ARE JUST AWESOME! THAT'S WHY!....NO BUT REALLY,

"Men are disproportionately represented in many institutions including law, politics, the academy, and the economy. Women have made great strides in increasing representation in many of these professions with the exception of policing; where police departments have had difficulty hiring, retaining, and promoting female officers" (Shelley, Morabito & Tobin-Gurley. 2011). In addition, once in the police department, women face further discrimination and hardships. Thus, with any solution to a problem there needs to first be awareness.  In which this topic highlights a social issue that is commonly ignored. We hope that presenting on this topic will get people to think on the subject and what can be done about it as a society.

Furthermore, women who join the policeforce tend to join for the same reason a man would, and these things inlcude but are not limited to; helping people, saving lives or even just for the chase of the 'bad guys'. Nonetheless, policewomen do love their job, and we think that it is important to address the underlying issues within policing to make it more comfortable for women to join, stay and move up within the department.

Watch this liberating video on the Evolution of Women in Policing, as these women express what being a police officer means to them.
